Putu Wardana is hand carving Jambe. He is a musician too and teaches others in his village to play the Jambe. He hopes to promote this music so that the Jambe will be recognized all over the world.

 

Budiana is carving a mask depicting the characters Rama and Shita from the epic story of the Ramayana. He hopes to use his woodworking talent to promote Balinese dancing, costume, and culture. He and his family work together to create beautiful sculptures for tourists and for exporting.

Sudana tries to carve different things than other Balinese artists, such as dolphin statues out of Crocodile and swar wood.

 

Wood carving is a tradition in Sueta's family.Together they create beautiful decorations such as this mask.

 

Subur takes a break from carving Buddhas, which are very popular among tourists. He and his family and neighbors produce these popular carvings.
Nesa is sitting next to one of many of his creations. He likes to work with Sono wood, Swar wood, and Crocodile wood. He creates statues of elephants, such as the one in the photo, horses, monkeys, lizards, and much more.
